Fresh. Healthy.
Tasty.
Mushrooms grown in Nairobi, picked by hand and packed the same day for kitchens and shops.
Tiny white pins break through the casing soil.
Caps fill out, round, white and firm.
Picked by hand, chilled, packed the same day.
Nuf, as in enough.
We named the farm after the feeling at the end of a good meal. Fresh mushrooms, grown close to the people who eat them, so Nairobi's kitchens and shops never make do with old stock from far away.
From spore to shelf in five steps.
Button mushrooms grow in trays of compost under a layer of casing soil, in cool, clean, humid rooms. About five weeks from spawn to the first harvest.
- 01
Spawn
Pasteurised compost is seeded with mushroom spawn.
- 02
Colonise
White mycelium runs through the compost for about two weeks.
- 03
Case
A layer of peat casing soil goes on top to hold water.
- 04
Pin
Cooler air and fresh air tell the crop to fruit. Pins appear.
- 05
Harvest
Caps are picked by hand, chilled at once and packed.
We are trialling two mushrooms.
